Centro Sagradia
AOKs: Human Sciences, Natural Sciences, Arts
The 'new' Catholic quarters of Granada, Centro Sagradia is now the commercial hub of Granada, as well as hosting some of its finest buildings.
Not happy with the Alhambra, the early Christian Spanish rulers decided to spread the city to the lower plain. Several churches, monasteries, convents and the supreme Cathedral were built in close proximity to each other, showcasing the extraordinary craftsmanship of the day.
The center now functions largely as a tourist accommodation and shopping district.
Real Life Situation:
Many old buildings of the centro district are protected for their historical value, others just for their beauty. However, there are a number of modern concrete buildings that are said to be ugly 'eye-soars'. These buildings are mostly from the 1970's during a epriod of lax planning regulation.
First Order Questions:
Do local Granadians still consider this to be the center of Granada?
Second Order Questions:
How do we define the 'center' of a city?
Are there objective aesthetic values that can be placed on buildings?
